Personally, this is my favourite candid portrait. John (along with Rosie) run Animal Magic, an animal rescue and educational centre in Co. Limerick. The love these guys have for animals is inspiring and I was lucky to capture this moment between John and one of their snakes.
I had the 70-200mm lens on the camera at the time and I had to rely on contortion to squeeze into a doorway to get far away enough so that the lens would focus! Apart from a crop and conversion to monochrome I've done very little post work on this, in fact it's one of the few photos posted which I've processed entirely in Lightroom.

All work and no play means no new photos to post here.
It took this photo a few months ago. It's the first in a series that I'm hoping to do based on a post-apocalyptic theme. Although, with the lack of free time I have, it's more likely to be documentary rather than fantasy by the time I get around to taking more in the series!
I didn't post this at the time because I'm not 100% sure of it - but I can't put my finger on why. I'd welcome your opinion on this one.
Finally, thanks to the kind soul who nominated me in the Irish Blog Awards.

This photo of Tatyana was taken last Saturday on the grounds of the Adare Manor. An amazing fog descended that morning which refused to lift all day but made for a great backdrop.
The lighting was a single bare 580EXII from camera left to help lift Tatyana from the background. As for processing, the majority was to further emphasise the fog so that it closer represented how it looked that day. Other than that there was some cloning of distractions and the usual tweaks. I've included the original for comparison on this one so just roll your mouse over the original link above the photo.

The image I had in my mind proved to be harder to create than I amagined. It took hours of faffing about in Photoshop to create those wings! You can see the original by rolling your mouse over the "original" link above the photo.
This was taken at sunset in Cratloe Woods - big thanks to Catriona for modelling.

This is a welcome break from all of the Winter photos I've been posting! This was taken on Saturday at a strobist meet. However the natural light was so amazing that we all ditched the strobes at one stage or another.

These photos were taken duing an impromtu photowalk around Curraghchase with Denis. As I was photographing, the idea of a panel of photos came to me so I went about finding different plants and angles that would hopefully tie the panel together.
(If you like these then you'll love the work of Julie. To me at least these remind me of Julie's style, not that I set out to achieve it but as I was processing them they reminded me a little of her work, which can only be a good thing!)
Also, it's time for nominations for the Irish Blog Awards. Irish photobloggers have produced some amazing and inspiring work this year so be sure to nominate your favourite Irish phoboblog here.

The snow covered crannog at Craggaunowen today. A crannog is an artificial island on which people built houses, kept animals and lived in relative security (as you can see by the fence surrounding the island). This is a reconstruction of the site which was inhabited during the Late Bronze Age.
Earlier in the day (inspired by John's photo) I tested the waters at the lake in Dromoland:

I went for a walk around the grounds of Dromoland this afternoon. As I was driving in I spotted some deer running in the distance. I quickly parked up and put the zoom lens on and made my way after them in the hope that they might have stopped. Sure enough they had and I managed to sneak relatively close to them before the scampered off.
The whole grounds were stunning and I'll probably post another photo or two from the walk over the next few days.
(Oddly this is the second time I have posted a photo of three deer.)

Another year over. Thanks to everyone who visited this blog over the last 12 months and especially those of you who took the time to comment. I hope you all have a great 2010!
This time last year I made some photographic resolutions. The first was to post more photos to this blog which I've managed to do, with 102 photos posted this year (compared to 85 last year). The second was to get out of my comfort zone and take more photos of people which I have enjoyed doing. My final resolution was to produce a body of related work. You can probably tell by the usual pick 'n' mix of photos that I've posted that I didn't make much progress on this one! However, I was involved in something...
Still Limerick is a project that was started by Neville Gawley this time last year. The idea was simple - take one photograph each day depicting Limerick. Today is the final day of the project and there is an amazing body of work built up over the year. Fair play to Neville for keeping the momentum going on this. I helped out by standing in as photographer on about 30 days during the year and I really enjoyed watching the project progress. If you're from Limerick (or if you are just interested in some documentary photography) then you should definitely have a brose through the project.
Finally, this image was taken in Curraghchase during a photowalk on Christmas Eve with Denis. I yoinked the prop from Denis' Christmas tree as we left the house.
