I’ve had a really busy few months full of gorgeous weddings and now I get to process them. On the one hand, it’s a lot of work but on the other, I love going back and seeing all the images. Amanda and Brian’s wedding was a relaxed, family affair with a touch of luxury, I photographed Amanda’s sister Alicia’s wedding a few years ago and it was lovely to see so many familiar faces again. The bride and her girls got ready at the Shelbourne Hotel in Dublin and the ceremony was in the always magical University Church on the other side of the Green, Alicia sang during the service and she had everyone in tears, I was even getting a little welled up. She’s hoping to start singing professionally at weddings and I have to say, she’s already the best wedding singer I’ve ever heard so if you’re on the look out for a singer for your wedding let me know and I’ll point you in her direction.
After the ceremony we spent some time wandering through the Iveagh Gardens before heading back to the Shelbourne to celebrate. Amanda and Brian live in Chicago so there was an Irish American feel to the whole day including the music which had everyone up dancing. Thanks Amanda and Brian for asking me to be a part of your day!

Like I said in the last post I was sure I would be up taking photos of Tom straight away but I had completely forgotten just how flattened a person feels after giving birth. Newborn photoshoots are more physical than you might think so it was 10 days before I finally managed to put together the shoot that I wanted to do rather than just snatching a couple of random ones.
Tom’s nursery is a work in progress because he’s still sleeping in with me but right now that means I have a lovely empty room with wood floors and white walls and a very groovy rocking chair. I’d had some of these shots in my head for awhile so it was a lot of fun being able to try a few things out (and Tom slept for ages bless him).

This is a blog post that is looooong past due. Thomas Matthew Wilson is now a whopping 13lbs and 10 weeks old and I’ve not done a single post of him or even posted a single photo. Well, I have been taking them just not actually getting around to doing anything with them. Some numbers: Tom was born 10 days early on the 4th of June at about 11pm after a short 2 hour labour weighing 8lbs 4oz. He’s been a dream of a baby and I’ve been back to work since he was 5 weeks old. I’m counting my self very lucky that he’s so good, I am aware that it’s not always like this and there’s nothing worse than having someone else tell you how wonderful their baby is sleeping when you don’t remember what it’s like not to fall asleep on the loo just because it’s the only time you’ve stopped moving for more than 30 seconds. Let’s just say Eve wasn’t so fond of sleeping as her brother.
OK, enough blabbing. I am just going to start putting photos up as I get to them in between photo processing and album designing. This is probably a first but I didn’t actually take most of these, Matt did. My waters broke at exactly 7:30pm on that Saturday evening (right as the credits to Dr. Who were rolling so hopefully that means he’s a sci fi fan like the rest of the family) and we were in the car heading to the hospital by 8pm when I realised I didn’t have my camera. Cue big U-Turn to go back and lots of laughter from all the neighbours out enjoying the evening sunshine and who had just waved us off a few minutes before. I couldn’t go without my camera though, I was so sure I’d be up photographing the new baby straight away. Strangely enough, when Tom arrived I wasn’t in much of a photographing frame of mind…who’d a thunk? Thankfully Matt was on the ball and I did manage to pick a lens and fumble with the settings so the shots weren’t completely dark. I think he did a good job and I’m very glad he took some because the whole thing is already becoming a blur to me.

to be continued…
Just in the door from a sweet city wedding in Dublin and couldn’t resist posting this quick sneek peek…

Well, a lot has happened since I last posted…actually one thing has happened but it was a big thing…our new baby arrived. Little Thomas Wilson is happy and healthy and already 5 weeks old. Coincidentally, the groom at my first wedding back last Saturday was also a Tom and it turned out to be a great wedding to ease back into things. The weather was perfect, the bride and groom were happy and so much fun to be around, Christina Brosnan was along to help me out, Eamonn and Anna from Flowers Made Easy did the flowers and the Photobooth and there was even a helicopter!
OK, hold on to your hats, lots of photos heading your way:

There is an interview by Bernice Mulligan in the Irish Independent’s Mothers & Babies supplement today with me talking about taking family photographs. It’s not available online as of yet so you can read it here in case you missed it in the paper.

I sent in a selection of photos and the ones they’ve chosen are mostly of a shoot I did on Arklow Beach just a couple of weeks ago with the very photogenic Feeney family. The two little girls were so good and just adorable, plus the sun came out and we could have been somewhere far flung and exotic, not just down the road in Wicklow!

The funny thing is, I do say in the interview that I don’t recommend taking photos in harsh sunlight and this photoshoot took place under a totally clear blue sky and bright sun. Also, I say to avoid shooting with people’s backs to the light and I break that rule all the time, including with this shoot, I love backlighting. I stand by what I said though, it’s best to know the “rules” and then you can go ahead and break them. Personally I’m a little disappointed when conditions are supposedly “correct” for photography, ie overcast skies and even light. I prefer a bit of drama in my light. The idea is to get to the point where you’ve taken enough photos in different situations that you’re not afraid of trying things and making mistakes. Happy accidents can often become tried techniques.

Two little sisters that I had the pleasure of spending a morning with recently. First I spent a little time photographing the newest member of the family:

Then I was brought upstairs so I could be read a story and see big sister’s fairy princess bedroom:

There may have been some jumping on the bed…although I can’t confirm or deny it.

Are you as sick of this rain and fog and darkness as I am? I’m so ready for spring to arrive. I have beautiful winter weddings I could be posting but I was going back over some of my summer weddings from last year and just seeing the golden sunshine and the flowers and the green cheered me up no end so I thought I’d spread the cheer. This is Amy and Conchuir’s wedding from a breezy warm weekend in July. (Aoife, who did the make up, was telling us how she was stepping back from it to concentrate on her new business The Bridal Lounge and this week not only did she win Bridal Make Up of the year at the Weddings Online Awards but The Bridal Lounge also picked up the Best Supplier Website! Congratulations Aoife and Deirdre.)

I only pulled the couple away from their guests for 15 minutes because it would have been mean to take any longer, thankfully we only had to go a few steps away to find a pocket of pretty light by the mill:

And as for the reception venue, well the Millhouse in Slane is more like a house in Provence, billowing lavender and everything. The House itself is modern and swish so it’s a mix of old and new. Amy and Conchuir’s details were wonderful, from the Battle of the Boyne centrepieces to the beer in the bathtub outside, I was spoilt.
