Black Hill panorama (scroll right)

Attempted panorama taken from the top of Black Hill, County Wicklow. The lake in the foreground is the Blessington lake or Poulaphouca reservoir. This is a man-made lake that is used to generate electricity. The River Liffey flows into and out of the lake.

Big Sky

From the top of Tonelagee (Toin le Gaoith in Gaelic, which means ‘wind at my back’ – there is another version , but I’m too polite to put that). Looking south-west you can see the road down into Glendalough and, in the far distance, the sea.

Burn out

Burnt-out car abandoned on the way up Black Hill, overlooking the Blessington lakes. I don’t know how they got it up there, as the path was barely walkable let alone driveable.

Lough Ouler

From the summit of Tonelagee, Lough Ouler can be seen. The plan was to climb Tonelagee, go down to the lough and then back up over the mountain again. After seeing the descent I decided an early walk back to the car was in order.

Tonelagee

Walked up Tonelagee in the Wicklow mountains yesterday. That marker is at 817 metres. I admit I found it very hard going getting up there, but the view was worth it. This is taken looking south-west with, I think, but don’t quote me on it, Lugnaquilla (925 metres) in the far distance with snow on the summit.
