As photographers we are all used to the days when despite all our planning we arrive at our destination just in time to see the clouds roll in and ruin the shoot we had planned, so the other morning it was great to see some high cloud arrive right on time, just as the sun rose and give us this fine display.

Last Sunday morning I headed off early (for me anyway) to Manor Kilbride in Co Wicklow to try to catch the last of the Autumn colour, I knew that I wasn’t going to be there at the best time for the light but I had other commitments later on in the day so I had to make the best of it.
One consolation was that I had the place pretty much to myself which doesn’t happen too often this time of the year, it always seems to be busy with a mix of photographers and the general public getting in each others way.

It’s almost exactly a year since the coldest spell of weather I cam remember hit Kildare and the rest of Ireland, at first the snow and the well subzero temperatures were something of a novelty but as the month wore on most of us were looking forward to a return to normality.
It was spectacular while it lasted though

I’ve finally bitten the bullet and moved all this blog over to WordPress, I started this project using Pixelpost which has served me well but unfortunately the team behind it has had to move on to other things and as a consequence development has halted and the forum on their site isn’t really active any more, I was afraid that some day I’d try to upload something and it wouldn’t work and I’d be offline for ages so I’ve bitten the bullet and thanks to WordPress, the Suffusion theme, the folks at eleventwentysix.com who wrote a plugin which allowed me to export all the old posts and comments from my old pixelpost install and loads of help for Google I’m up and running with almost no down time.
The photo is for a little project I’m doing for our local Photo Club, it seemed appropiate to post something “looking up” as the first new post with the new install just gone live

The coast of malta has these towers every few miles, a result I suppose of being a small Island surrounded by hostile forces.

Last Light
Last light on the final day of our stay in Malta, it had been a beautiful day with hardly a cloud in the sky and I suppose I was hoping for a few to appear over the horizon just as the sun set but it wasn't to be.

Mellihia Church
One from the last day of our trip to Malta, typically the weather was best on the last two days before we left but it was nice to get some shots with nice blue Maltese skies.

Mdina in the rain
Trust our luck that it's raining on the first full day we were in Malta, not much by Irish standards but more than our driver back to the hotel was comfortable with but that's a story for another day.
