I’m holding a workshop for photoshop and other ways to manipulate a photograph. I’ll be adding a page to my website soon and all the information about it can be found there.
Here is the before and after of this image which I’ve called Anna Livia Pleurabelle after James Joyces character in Finnegans Wake. I used layers and layers here. Possibly 30 or so to achieve the effect here. I’m really happy with the colours here and love the burst of electric blue the fish give to the finished image.
Speaking of layers, I’m giving a weekend workshop in November ’13 on Layers and Textures so if you’re interested get in touch with me. A knowledge of your way around Photoshop is required for this workshop. We’ll have a couple of hours shooting models and the rest of the time we will spend editing the shots we’ve taken over the next day and a half. If you have no photoshop and are interested in seeing whether or not you enjoy making art from your photos then do what I did and download Gimp which is a free platform similar to photoshop. I also do beginner workshops throughout the year so do contact me if you’re interested in that either
This is the before and after of the shot I took of Rosyln. I asked her to stand in front of a white wall so that I could change the background to whatever I liked. I thought I’d keep it simple in the end and just make her the center of attraction. I made her hat a little more raised height wise and I extended her skirt material to cover more of the front of her body and I changed the colour of it from blue to purple because purple is a complimentary colour to the yellow gold on her eyes and arm.
Now its back to the drawing board to start work on some new images for my next exhibition whenever and wherever that may be and to get going on processing the photos from some of the photo shoots that I’ve done recently.
It was exciting to see my image being used for the dustcover of a book. The editor told me that he would send me a couple of copies so I’m looking forward to seeing those.
Besides organizing which images I’m going to use for an upcoming exhibition I’ve mostly been procrastinating because, well because that’s what I do best of course.
I’ve one, two, three, four separate shoots that I’ve worked on recently still in the pipeline work wise. What can I say.
It’s a long pipeline ???
But I do have plans and hope to have them all finished by the end of the week so to my lovely children; farewell
So I made my decision and did a bit of work of my own instead of working on my commissions. This one also has a story behind it pertaining to my life right now. Again I’m not explaining this one but leaving the symbolism to speak for itself.
Having completed the above picture means I am only 3 images away from my 1,000th image. Now, should I do three more or work on my commissions ???
I have to admit I do like Symmetry in my work which is probably why I create mostly square images. This one on the other hand I thought would benefit from being a rectangle as I figured it would make the symmetry, mirror and central, stand out a little more. Anyhow, I’m pleased with how it turned out and I love the contrasting colours.
Like most of my work there is a little of the story of my own life behind this image but I’d rather not explain this one and just let the symbolism of it speak for itself.
Today I find myself with a bit of a dilemma. I’m four images away from reaching 1,000 images which I’ve created for my personal portfolio. I’d really prefer to work on some images I’ve saved from shoots that I’ve done in the past and reach that 1,000 image goal over the next couple of days but I have two commissions I know I should be getting on with…..
So the weather is getting colder and shooting outdoors is not so much fun now is it? It’s hard work for the models freezing their butts off and frozen hands don’t work so well on the shutter button on my camera so I guess I’ll be doing more indoor shoots over the coming few weeks.
I often wonder how many times per week other photographers shoot. I usually shoot about 3 times a week and spend the other days processing what I’ve shot. Yesterday, Friday, I spent the morning making up a list of about 30 ideas that I have in mind to work on over the coming few months. I’m not sure if I will get to do every one of them or if they will work out at all but I find it helps me inspiration wise……
Have a great weekend……..
When Brenda agreed to model for me in the forest I said that in return I would give her some headshots and some fashion shots. This is a headshot I did for her and when she lets me know which fashion shots she liked out of the shoot I will work on them and upload them here.
I’ve been so busy lately that my diary is booked up until the begining of January 2012…
That’s never happened to me before and not that I’m complaining just a little daunted at the amount of work ahead of me. Also there’s a vomiting bug going around the kids in this house and I haven’t felt the best yesterday or today which is unusual for me. I cant remember the last time I’ve been ill so I cant complain……..
If there’s ever anything you want to know about my photography or how to do something with regards to your own please do ask, I’m only too willing to share info. In fact I’ve had a few people asking me if I would do another workshop. (I did one in June I think) So to any of my Irish contacts, if you’re interested in doing a photoshop workshop some time in the new year do get in touch and if I have the numbers I’ll organize one.
Have a lovely weekend 🙂
