Francis Allen from Rathkenny rolled up to the Trim Vintage Car Rally in his ’85 Mk1 Passat, much to the amusement of the other competitors.
He dug the car out of his neighbours ditch, fitted a new battery and radiator of off she went. It’s a 1.6 l diesel with over 266,000 miles on the clock and she still goes.
The roof rack was his own making (originally a bed frame) and he stacked up the junk on top just for the craic.
Apparently the car originally belonged to an Aer Lingus pilot before ending up in his neighbours ditch.
