Happy Christmas to all. Picture was taken just a year ago, showing Clew Bay in Mayo at sunrise.
Audi’s have always been cars that make my head turn driving past. It might have been a bit of wishful thinking I was getting one of these this Christmas. The rain on the car in this shot is amazing, I got soaked this day shooting around Dublin’s City Centre and Rathmines.

Ps, have a fantastic Christmas/Holiday!!

On Sunday, a group from the Galway Hillwalking Club climbed Shannavara (Seanadh Bhéara). It took us all day despite the fact it is only 358 metres tall. To be honest, most of us could not have found the hill on a map unless it was pointed out to us. The reason we were there was because of a challenge. The Mountain Views website has a facility where one can enter your home location, and it will produce a list of the 100 closest peaks. The challenge is to climb them all. On Sunday, one of our group had climbed 99 so he was going to finish the year by climbing the last one. Last Sunday, there was a scheduled flat walk (the club alternates between flat and hill walks ever other week) and there is a very bitter friendly rivalry between flat and hill walkers – particularly over the speed of the walks. As it happened, we had to pass the flat walkers on our way out to the start of the Shannavara walk. Because it was the last Sunday of the [walking] year, there was mulled wine and mince pies waiting for returning walkers in Kelehan’s pub back in Galway. And who came back first ?
The flat walkers had been and gone an hour before we arrived back, though they had left a few pies for us. We had been so casual that we could have walked half the Maumturks in the time it took us to walk what was essentially a natural rockery. And to add insult to injury, Shanavarra used to be a flat walk route.
Though it isn’t very high, it does have an unrivaled panoramic view of every single mountain in Connemara [click here to view picture]
Happy Christmas and New Year everyone! Hope you had a good year.
This photography technique, hte nice blurred/rounded lights is called bokeh. I used my Sigma 30mm f1.4 lens to achieve the effect.

For quite a while no I’ve been looking at other photographers blending textures into their shots, being impressed by the results and making a mental note that someday I’ll have to have a go at that.
Well today was the day I had my first go, I thought that this image might be suitable to try with so I downloaded some free textures from the internet and let loose in Photoshop trying various combinations of blend modes and opacities.
I’m not sure now that the textures I picked were the most suitable but as with everything else with photography and post processing you have to climb that steep learning curve….
Last Saturday I went to the Coderdojo party in the NSC with my son Adam to see what it was all about. We arrived late and all the pizza was gone but there were loads of balloons for the younger kids to play with!
The adults and older kids watched a 3D Makerbot printer demo. I love the open wooden case the printer is made from and when it started making a replica of St. Anne’s Church all eyes were glued to it as layers of plastic were laid down layer by layer. I posted some more photos here too.

Thanks Ann for tweeting about this on Saturday morning and reminding me it was on! Hopefully I’ll get to more Coderdojo events in the future!
