I spent an interesting day in Ashbourne Shooting Grounds last August, teaching Cian Ward, the Meath Footballer how to shoot. It was for the RTE programme “The Road To Croker” which went out just before the game against Kerry. The beat the crap out of us! Cian turned out to be not a bad shot with the gun and even managed to break a few clays.
Following on from yesterday’s post Allan Cavanagh got all creative with it and came up with this.
And Maman Poulet directed me towards this video by Will StLeger, brilliant.

I’m kind of embarrassed to say I don’t know if this is a hawk or an eagle (National Geographic puts down the phone), but I do know this is a beautiful bird and it kills and eats small animals.
*Update* Thank you to Stephen who has identified this bird as a crow peregrine falcon.

I’m not sure if someone was trying to add a seasonal touch to the statue of Turlough Carolan (as gaeilge – Toirdhealbhach Ó Cearbhalláin) last Christmas by adding a tree, or maybe it was just a prank by someone on their way home from the pub. The composer and musician died on this day in 1738.
