Yesterday myself and Jason joined in on the first Garden Group organised by the lovely Peter Donegan of Donegan Landscape Gardening. The trip was to the WW1 Memorial Park in Dublin which is tucked away near Islandbridge, just across the river from the Phoenix Park. Peter had arranged a tour of the park with one of the gardeners, Craig who looks after it. The tour was really interesting and informative and although the park is not exactly “in bloom” at the moment, it is a gorgeous place to visit at any time of the year.
One of the things I really like about the park was the number of local people out walking their dogs, such as the lady in these photographs. The dogs all seemed to be having little parties and playing with each other and I counted four three-legged dogs (not all together) so there was all kinds of mixers out and about. Thanks a million to Peter and Craig for giving up their Sunday morning to bring the group around and show us the rooms and telling us the history of the park.

Reliving our youth before heading to the Dara O’Briain show last night (thanks Dónall and Kate!), Phil and myself went back to our old haunt, Captain America’s, on Grafton Street. It has played a big part in our lives. From the 70’s through to bringing our young kids there, they playing with the colouring pages and finished them off by filling in their names and dates of birth on the bottom. To their amazement and joy the Captain’s birthday cards duly arrived. They are all grown up and it is now one of their favourite places when they are in Dublin.
We were also treated to free (we did run down and shove a fiver in his hat) entertainment on the street below. A special day all round!

The same crow as yesterday, calling out a battle cry perhaps?

Walking on Long Strand the other day we doubled back across the dunes and back along the road. It’s a conservation area, and to promote plant biodiversity they have horses grazing the dunes over the winter. I looked up and saw these two cresting a large dune, silhouetted against the overcast sky.
I haven’t posted any photos for a while. Just going through some of my shots of a trip to Scotland during all the snow in January, and thought I’d post a couple of them up here to share.
This is a willow tree outside our apartment looking out over Loch Rannoch… real winter wonderland stuff.
…and this is a shot of Schiehallion taken from the banks of Loch Rannoch early one morning. It was the only day we saw the mountain; for the rest of our trip it was shrouded with low cloud.
