A round-up of the year in pictures. It’s been a year of highs and lows - I won’t bore you by listing them here as I have probably written about them somewhere in the blog over the past 12 months!
Have a happy and safe new years eve and I hope that 2010 is good to you all.

Another year over. Thanks to everyone who visited this blog over the last 12 months and especially those of you who took the time to comment. I hope you all have a great 2010!
This time last year I made some photographic resolutions. The first was to post more photos to this blog which I've managed to do, with 102 photos posted this year (compared to 85 last year). The second was to get out of my comfort zone and take more photos of people which I have enjoyed doing. My final resolution was to produce a body of related work. You can probably tell by the usual pick 'n' mix of photos that I've posted that I didn't make much progress on this one! However, I was involved in something...
Still Limerick is a project that was started by Neville Gawley this time last year. The idea was simple - take one photograph each day depicting Limerick. Today is the final day of the project and there is an amazing body of work built up over the year. Fair play to Neville for keeping the momentum going on this. I helped out by standing in as photographer on about 30 days during the year and I really enjoyed watching the project progress. If you're from Limerick (or if you are just interested in some documentary photography) then you should definitely have a brose through the project.
Finally, this image was taken in Curraghchase during a photowalk on Christmas Eve with Denis. I yoinked the prop from Denis' Christmas tree as we left the house.

My last image for 2009. May 2010 be better for me photography wise.
Wishing you a happy new year :)

Phew! It's Over
And so ends 2009. This photoblog has been a huge undertaking but it has also given me a motivation to get out to more locations, shoot more, share more and experiment more. It's probably the single best thing I've ever done to improve my photography skills. However, with my right arm in a cast for January, I'm going to be relaxing my one-photo-a-day publishing schedule for 2010.

The new Opera Lane in Cork City separates the gleaming buildings of the new development that was built right in the heart of the city and completed this year. Back in July it was a rugged dirty construction site, and this photo is a fitting end to 2009, and the Noughties. Not much construction work going on anywhere in Ireland now. Just lots of debt.
I’ll post a photo tomorrow, but I’ll be posting every 3 days after that to give myself a little more free time. This blog gets a third of the traffic of Holy Shmoly! yet takes far more time to update. Traffic isn’t the reason why you should blog, but a photoblog is a very public display of creative work by it’s owner. Without feedback from new visitors it’s hard to maintain an enthusiasm for it. The unfortunate thing is that it’s very difficult to attract visitors to a site like this because of the minimal amount of text for search engines to index.
I know myself it’s easy to scan photoblogs in a feedreader. One quick look, and on to the next one. I’m guilty of that myself!
To end on a high note, I’ll have more time to prepare posts, and polish the photos I upload so I hope both are even better next year!
Happy New Year!

South Kildare Photo Club on tour
It's the time of the year wher you tend to look back over the previous 12 months and I come to the conclusion that maybe the photographic highlight for me is not anything I've done myself but the strides that our local photography club (South Kildare) has made, there's been plenty of hiccups along the way but real progress has been made.
Anyway all the members are mad, out in the cold, taking pictures of a frozen lake.........

Another year draws to a close. Lets hope 2010 sees some small step towards a world that begins to care about itself and its people. (Though I wouldn’t get my hopes up!)
