Peter Cox: Pan’s Rock, Ballycastle, Antrim Coast

§ July 19th, 2009

The Pan's Rock is a popular fishing spot on Ballycastle Beach on the North Antrim Coast, or the Causeway Coast as it is also known.

Reachable at low tide by hopping the slippery rocks, it becomes an island at high tide, and so a footbridge has been built out to it.

In this view of the rock, made an hour or so after dawn, a long exposure of two minutes has been used to smooth out the movement in the water. This has also blurred the clouds which were moving briskly from the north. Rathlin Island is visible on the horizon.

This is another favourite image from the second Antrim trip I took in 2009, and produces a stunning large print.

Beaty Treatment at The Body Shop

I’m still recovering after the photowalk yesterday! I took a quick look through my photos this evening and decided I’m not over the moon about any of them. A couple are ok, but there’s that little critical part of my mind saying, “crap, crap, crap, blah, ’s ok, focus is off, boring, what were you thinking?” as I look through them.

Anyway, here’s a shot from just before I met everyone else so I guess it can’t be counted really. Shame really as I have another shot of a gentleman getting a bus that I quite like in b/w.

Glad I had the wide angle lens on, caught this beauty treatment in front of The Body Shop on Patrick’s Street. Things are really desperate when shops are hawking their wares on the street trying to entice customers to buy. I saw a guy from Waterstones handing 3-for-2 leaflets outside Easons too. That’s smart. Target your competitor’s customers!

Oh check out Jamie’s post about the day. He has some great shots. Thanks again to everyone who came!

Latchiko: Drops And Swans

§ July 19th, 2009

This was taken during yesterdays photowalk around Limerick. The weather was dull, wet and uninspiring but 20+ photographers still took to the streets and made the most of it! We started out at the Milk Market where we met some interesting characters and then made our way to the Peoples Park and explored the gardens there. We followed that with a stroll along the riverbank (taking some cliché'd swan photos!) to King John's Castle before ending up in the Locke Bar for some food and drink. It was great to meet some new photographers and also to catch up with others I hadn't seen in a while. People have already started uplodaing their favourites to the flickr group.

Its been a very hectic few days. Lots of work to do for Uni and then yesterday I was photographing a wedding in Bristol. I have narrowed the shots down but I still have HUNDREDS to edit! As a taster, here is one of my favourite shots from the day.
