Cork City Hall, on the banks of the River Lee. Shot on the same night as yesterday’s shot of Gardner House. Also not the first time I’ve posted a photo of City Hall!
Only 9 places left for the photowalk. Unfortunately the weather forecast for Saturday is bad so umbrellas and raincoats are a must. I’ll be emailing everyone tomorrow too. Watch your inbox!

I’m back from two weeks camping and slowly getting back into the swing of things. We had a brilliant time and we didn’t want to leave but coming home to a little gift from the eBay fairy made up for it. Just before I left I won this Kodak Duaflex, I’ve been looking for one for awhile so I could try some Through The Viewfinder photography:

Through the Viewfinder photography refers to taking photos through the viewfinder of old cameras using modern digital cameras, this means you can get the effect of the old camera but without having to find the right film or developing it. It’s the best of both worlds. You do have to do a bit of DIY contraption building to block out the light but there are groups on Flickr dedicated to TTV photography and I followed the tutorial here and built my contraption from a cereal box and duct tape:

I only had a little bit of light left for my first experiment but I can’t wait to try it out when I have a bit more time.

I've just returned from another productive trip to the north Antrim coast. I was there with fellow Viewpoints photographer Neil McShane.
The first image from the trip can be seen below, and the rest will become available in the
Antrim section of the galleries over the next days and weeks.

Made on my second visit to the north Antrim coast in 2009, this view of Fair Head from Colliery Bay is my favourite of the trip.
The weather was threatening in the pre-dawn hours, but there was a band of clear sky right where the Sun was due to rise. The low clouds are lit from beneath as it rises over the Scottish Hebrides, but all too soon the show was over and it vanished behind the advancing cloud cover.
Being in the right place at the right time is crucial for successful landscape photography. On this morning I realized the shot I had planned, which relied upon golden sunlight on the scene, was not going to happen - so I shifted gears and went to a location where I'd be able to shoot directly at the Sun as it rose.
The tactic paid off in this case, and this image - made at the peak of the light show - shows that the red light wasn't quite strong enough to fully light the underside of the clouds nor to illuminate the rocks. The result is a contrast of warm and cool colours which I feel work very well.

The Space Shuttle Endeavour streaks over our house followed by the recently seperated main fuel tank. Awesome sight, and moving much quicker than I expected. Glad I didn't try the telephoto ;-)

The annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk takes place this Saturday. If you are in Limerick and interested in joining other photographers on a casual stroll around the city you can find all of the details and sign up on the limerick photowalk page. There are other Irish photowalks being organised in Dublin, Cork, Galway and other locations around Ireland, you can find the photowalk closest to you using this photowalk map.
As a photowalk leader I had to provide a photo for the profile page. This is a composite of two photos, blended together in photoshop.
