I really can’t get enough of these wee Meerkats!
In June, Cork was lucky enough to sample the delights of the Street Performance World Championships. This fella, unsurprisingly called The Piano Juggler, was one of the acts I really wanted to see having seen him perform on the final Late Late Show with Pat Kenny. He didn’t disappoint on the day; the act was thoroughly enjoyable in spite of the threat of rain which isn’t good for his piano apparently!
This was also the first time I used my Pix.ie account where you can see all the photos I took and all the best photos of all the Irish SPWC on Pix.ie by various photographers. Kudos to the strategy Pix.ie use to get photographers onto their site which allows you upload to a pre-defined group for the event. They seem to be doing this for other events which is very clever. And it’s quite a nice site too. So the problem now is, do I stick with Flickr or move onto Pix.ie?
View from our hall window the other evening… amazing light and a fabulous brooding sky. It’s a “grab shot”… but one that captures the unpredictability of the West Cork summer.

Since my first visit to Cork as a photographer some years ago, I've had it in mind to photograph Toe Head, an imposing headland to the west of Galley Head on the south coast of Cork.
I hadn't found a vantage point I was happy with on the few occasions I'd been around when good light was threatening. However, serendipity paid a visit when I was out with Roger Overall, a commercial photographer and friend of mine.
We met up, I stabbed my finger at a spot on the OS map that looked promising and we arrived at the location in this photograph.
Made looking to the west as the Sun was getting low in the sky, it shows the headland's most imposing aspect with the rocks in the foreground leading the viewer up to it.
Made using a ten-stop neutral density filter, the water and waves take on a misty character which adds to the character of the scene.
