Smokin’ Pig

A friend recently fulfilled a lifelong ambition (well, one of them I’m sure!) to roast a pig on a spit.  The pig was cooking all day and I’m glad to say I’m still around after tucking in.  It was oh so good but I’d never have the patience to actually go to the bother of this.

Autumn Trees

Beautiful golden leaves adorn the trees in Burnham Beeches near London. Last year I posted a photo of the same trees in Burnham Beeches and this version has been sitting in my TODO folder ever since, waiting for me to work on it.

Writing for Life: Fledgling Robin (Erithacus rubecula)

§ July 6th, 2009

There seem to be fledgling robins (Erithacus rubecula) all over the garden at the moment… exceptionally cute, noisy and pretty easy to get close to.

DSC_1873

Slowly getting used to my Nikon D90… which is turning out to be an absolutely superb camera!

My old (10 years +) 28-200 Sigma zoom from my film SLR days, which I used for this shot, gives me 300mm at the long end with the DX sensor on the D90 (1.5 x magnification factor).

Works reasonably well, but….

I’m already hankering over better glass – need a macro, a decent wide angle and of course a long, fast (=very expensive) super telephoto for wildlife stuff.

I knew heading down the DSLR route was a bad (and potentially very expensive) idea ;-) .

Time to start saving….

Hot off the Memory Card: Peregrine

A peregrine falcon at the Old Head of Kinsale. I saw this fellow the evening before but the light wasn't good enough for a sharp shot. As it was, he flies a little to high for my 70-300. Hmm... must invest in 70-400 G :)

Poolbeg Power Station

I can’t believe I almost forgot to take this shot while doing a photo shoot in Sandymount, Dublin, on Sunday with the Poolbeg Power Station in the background. I just took the one - and really like it.
