CillDaraMan: Racing to Fame and Glory

Racing to Fame and Glory
The field of this years Irish Derby, already strung out by the fast pace set by the pacemaker, head across the Curragh Plains. Turning gradually right handed they will soon sprint up the home straight in front of the crowd packing the stands awaiting their arrival.

The eventual winner Fame and Glory is in fifth place at this stage.

Spotted (groan… pardon the pun) these beautiful flowers growing on the cliff above Silver Strand on Sherkin Island in West Cork last week.

Really gorgeous – but what really amazed me was how many of them there were growing in one spot.

Porchfield: Valentia Island Lighthouse

§ June 28th, 2009

I’m going on holidays in a few days so this is my last post here for a month or so. I may have some new stuff from the Lake District and Kerry when I return. I’m not going to go with the intention of shooting everything I see like I would usually do. I intend to soak up the places we visit and relax. I was too ill to enjoy last year and fortunately my recovery has reached a stage where I have enough energy to appreciate and engage in my surroundings. It’s such a gift and you have to nearly lose it to really appreciate it. I am indeed very lucky. See ye all soon and thanks for your support over the last 18 months.

P.S. The building in the foreground is The Lighthouse Cafe. Don’t go to Valentia without dropping in. The food is organic and salivating!!

Barry Somers: Fota Arboretum & Gardens

§ June 28th, 2009

Yesterday I went to Fota Wildlife park for the day and while I was there and visited Fota Arboretum & Gardens, I've never actually been to the gardens before so it was nice to see them...strangely enough however they have half of it closed off on Saturdays!
