Hot off the Memory Card: I Sea Pink

§ May 30th, 2009

After photographing these flowers for about a month now, I've finally looked it up and discovered they're called "Sea Pinks" or "Thrift". They provide a great splash of colour to our coastal landscapes at this time of the year.

I'm off to Kerry for the week so what follows are shots from last Sunday. Hopefully I'll come back with plenty of fodder for this blog.

Latchiko: Dussack

§ May 30th, 2009

A final fencing shot. This is known as the Dussack, with Marek, the fencer on the left, in Middle Guard and Neville, on the right, in The Steer.

(Cross lit using two strobes with a third strobe for fill, fired using skyports.)

Where you'll find Fianna Fail

In years to come they’ll talk about the Fianna Fail posters of 2009. This was the year when many party members chose to hide the name “Fianna Fail” on their posters. You’d have to go right up to them to see that damned name.
One suspects they’re probably embarrassed by their association with Fianna Fail, a name synonymous with dig outs for the pals, corruption and hospitality tents for builders. Not the general public’s favourite political force right now.

The Local and European Elections are in a week’s time. I don’t know who I’ll be voting for but it won’t be Brian Crowley. He’ll be returned anyway as he’s very popular and it’s his bad luck his poster was the only Fianna Fail one I spotted on my walk.

Hot off the Memory Card: Rusty Ol’ Pole

§ May 29th, 2009

An old gate or fence post at Garretstown, Co. Cork -- the gate or fence is long gone though. The last light of the day gave the rust a beautiful colour and texture which I've tried to accentuate by desaturating the background. As I've said before, there's far too much of this going on but I'm happy to contribute as I learn what works and what doesn't.
