Darren Greene: small details

Good Old War are the free download on itunes this week. Their last.fm profile also has most of their album tracks available to stream for free.
Last.fm is a pretty good place for stumbling across new music. All you have to do is type in the name of a band and it will play full tracks of artists deemed to be similar in style.
This is how I came across Juno Falls, an Irish band who also have a number of free tracks (and downloads) available.
While we’re on the subject of music, on Saturday I am off to see Seth Lakeman. I am rather excited as I haven’t seen this guy live for more than a year.

Sometimes I really miss living in England as I would often shoot off for gigs in Bristol, Bath, Oxford or even London at the drop of a hat as acts play a lot more shows over there. Ticket prices were so much cheaper over there aswell. For example, Seth is costing me €30. Not bad I suppose for concerts here, but in the UK, tickets for the same tour cost £16, thats less than €20! Being a poor student over in Dublin does have its drawbacks and this is one of the major ones for me - I feel stiffled by the high ticket prices and my gig attendance has basically been reduced by 90% since I moved here.
Looking upon it positively, I do feel that it has broadened my musical education as I am more likely to go and see an unknown band for a few euros than fork out handfuls of dosh for someone well-known. I also have to admit that I was rather spoilt before - now I consider it a treat when I do go and see someone perform and, therefore, I cherish it all the more.

The wiring of a non-existent barrier to a disused car park in the Titanic Quarter.

We visited Burnham Beeches last Friday afternoon, on a day when torrential rain was forecast but thankfully the weather forecast was completely wrong. This large forest close to the city of London is an amazing sight to behold with ancient trees, and at this time of year beautiful, vivid (eh Matt?) and colourful leaves that create a breathtaking canopy.
When I saw the scene you see above my jaw dropped in astonishment and I had to take a few photos of it. This is definitely a photo I’ll be printing and hanging on my wall. I hope you like it too!
Wikipedia says that:
Burnham Beeches is an area of 540 acres (220 hectares) of ancient woodland, located close to Farnham Common, Burnham and Beaconsfield, in Buckinghamshire. It is approximately 20 miles (30 km) to the west of London, England.

They provided fantastic upbeat music for the Shanghai Palace Nights swing dance event organised by Elaine & co at Swing Dance Cork. I’m a bit of a fan of swing-dancing, having started classes earlier on this year after years of going to Doubletime and seeing The Roaring Forties and not having a clue how to dance properly. If you want to try it yourself, Elaine is starting another course of classes from next Monday upstairs in the Liquid Lounge. All details are on her website, Swing Dance Cork.

There is a lot of rust around the Titanic Quarter. A lot left to rot. They have plans for it, they’re just taking their time about it.
