Glasseyalley: Barb

§ August 20th, 2008

A couple of tourists watched with great interest while I lavished attention on an old fence-post with this piece of rusted barb wire hanging off it. Anything to keep the cows and sheep out of the old mine shafts I suppose. Something I've driven past a few times but never realised that there are still open mine shafts, some extending a quarter mile into the ground, right next to where this was taken. Almost made me want to re-visit with some climbing gear!

Walked out along the Bull Wall at the weekend and miraculously didn’t get wet.

How queer.

Storm brewing at Allihies Beach

Storm clouds gathered over West Cork on the day I took this shot at Allihies Beach. A very different shot to some of the previous shots of this area!

It was freezing this day, wind howled and I was wrapped up in a big jacket against the elements. Gives me the shivers just looking at this photo.

Just goes to show, people can read littering signs here as well as they read them anywhere!

Don’t you just love family parties?

These are snaps from Ethan’s christening party. They remind me of every childhood birthday party I’ve ever ever had.

The ones with the pineapple-and-cheese-on a stick, with your aunt’s signature dish (my aunt Jackie does a mean egg-mayo-paprika thing), with the fresh breads, the apple and rhubarb pies, the rolled hams, the chocolate treats and, of course, the cake!
