Photos and Ponderings: Dingle Peninsula

§ August 6th, 2008

I was away at the weekend, which was an unusual break from the norm of working and sleeping (there's an ad on the radio which describes work as a day of back-breaking toil broken up only by periods of mind-numbing boredom, or words to that effect. It's funny, this is exactly how my job could be described! It's like they took the words out of my mouth!

Anyway, here is the first of a few of my photos from a weekend away, largely spent in Dingle. (I've blogged about Dingle before, here if you're interested). However, my favourite photo, the one below, was taken on the way home - still on the peninsula, but more towards Tralee. If you're interested, click through to the photo on Zooomr to see the geo-location data (and sign-up and comment, if you feel so inclined..)

Walking around in the dense yet perfectly ordered forest at Glendalough in Wicklow. The forest is not unlike something you'd see in a film. Possibly something with hobbitses or the likes.

Iced Coffee: wet wet

§ August 6th, 2008

Oh the rain. The Summer rain.
I recently acquired this Umbrella 3 weeks ago from my Granddad, unfortunately I haven’t seen him since then to give it back, or offer him some money for it as I want to do ‘cos I love it so much. I just hope he hasn’t gotten wet too much lately.

inphotos.org: Marina City

§ August 6th, 2008

Marina City

Marina City in Chicago is made up of two 65 storey towers with a distinctive circular shape. I just love the look of them actually. They’re right on the river but this shot is taken from the L, probably on the Brown line after leaving Kimball which will be tomorrow’s photo!

As usual the Wikipedia page has a lot more info about Marina City including this bit about Steve McQueen:

In the movie The Hunter, “Papa” Thorson (Steve McQueen) pursues a suspect in a car chase through the Marina City parking garage. His quarry eventually loses control of his car and drives it off of a high floor of the garage into the Chicago River. This scene was later recreated for an Allstate commercial in 2006/2007.

I recently ordered some photobooks and they arrived just a few days ago. I’m so impressed with the quality, they’re just yummy. The print quality is spot on, the pages are the perfect thickness and everyone I’ve shown them to just loves the idea of having photos displayed this way. This one was the smallest one and is a dinky 7×7. I can’t wait for Daniel’s Mum to see it!

Writing for Life: Hanging out – teddies on a washing line

§ August 6th, 2008

This is the most popular image in our photo wedding invitation line up. It’s the photo that inspired the business, and the one that best captures what Image Invitations is all about.

Hanging out – a photograph that inspired a business

I know this isn’t a forum for commercial promotion, and that’s not the aim. I thought I’d share the image with you here on its own merit.

The teddies, which belong to my twin daughters, were hanging on my parents’ washing line in North Wales after a much needed “bath”. I took several images from a variety of angles… this was the one that stood out.

Dee Organ: Wedding bells

§ August 6th, 2008

I was soo thrilled to be brought along to Sarah and Marks wedding by there photographer Gerry Costello. As a first time second shooter it was a huge learning experience for me. I could tell how important it was for Gerry to have had all his wedding experience, there is soo much to be on top of all the time. It was an amazing day, and everything went swimmingly. Having just got my hands on my first flash that morning, it was tough, but I was happy with some shots, see them on Flickr here. As always, room for improvement, so looking forward to the next one.

Big Thank You to Gerry for being so patient with me and to Sarah and Mark for letting me be a part of their special day.
