Glasseyalley: Lucky For Some

§ July 6th, 2008

A bottom of a glass bottle bearing the number thirteen, found on the small beach at Currabinny after undoubtedly spending a good amount of time being tossed around in the waves. I used to spend a portion of my time collecting such pieces of coloured glass on Cork's stony beaches for some unknown future purpose. As for 13, it's lucky. Friday the 13th is extremely lucky. Why? You don't want to know. I couldn't explain it without rambling on at length about fate, destiny and whatnot. Spare yourselves...

Casa Casey Courtney: Baby Joey

Baby Joey

Baby Joey

Kids, baby bumps and flowers, that’s all I seem to be shooting these days! Here’s my little cousin baby Joey, whose around five months old. They’re great at this age - so easily entertained! This cute little guy was full of laughs and gurgles, just adorable.
We were in really low light, so I shot these at a high ISO, really wide aperture and in black and white, although they’re still a bit noisy.

inphotos.org: Cock Pit Lane, Cork

Cock Pit Lane, Cork

I wouldn’t be surprised if you didn’t know where Cock Pit Lane was, or if you had never heard of it. It’s a small lane off Cornmarket Street, Cork.

I was fascinated by the slight change in meaning of the English and Irish names. The Irish name, “Lana Troid Coileach” literally means, “Cock Fight Lane”, a much less politically correct interpretation I’m sure you’ll agree. I don’t think the name changed in recent times because the only hit for this lane in Google is a PDF file listing O’Shea family members. Apparently William Shea, a publican, lived on Cock-Pit Lane in 1795. Pity there isn’t any more information.

This wasn’t shot yesterday at the photomeet, but I will be posting more of yesterday’s shots during the week!

Donal: Ger Wolfe and the New Skylarks at The Spiegeltent

Ger Wolfe and the New Skylarks at The Spiegeltent

Cork’s gentleman singer-songwriter Ger Wolfe was last up on stage in the Spiegeltent on that Sunday afternoon two weeks ago which also featured Ian Whitty, Aaron Dillon and Cian.  It had been a mammoth gig with each of the artists playing lengthy sets but Ger’s joviality stirred the crowd once more.  He also presented Cian with a birthday cake which was a bit of a surprise to Cian but it was a nice touch.  Check out Ger Wolfe’s relaxing style on his MySpace and I can heartily recommend any of his albums, all are true gems.  Edel Sullivan accompanied Ger at the show, see below.

Iced Coffee: river lee

Had a nice day in Cork, spent mainly walking around the city centre and shops before meeting up with Donncha, Donal and Damien. This shot was taken as Chris and I approached the city centre via St Patrick’s Street Bridge.

Today is our final day in the city before heading back home via Dublin. The weather seems good so far…
