Iced Coffee: corcaigh here i come

§ July 2nd, 2008

4th July. Independence Day.
I’m going to CORK!

Of all the three letter airport codes Cork has the best: ORK. But thats a sidenote I’m not even taking the plane anymore.

The last time I was in Cork we went to Trabolgan though I was nine and barely remember it. I’ve been thinking about going to Cork for a few months now, yet I barely know why. I just keep hearing the words ‘technology’ and ‘web’ coming from that general direction and wanna see if they have flying cars yet or generally what it is they are all so patriotic about…

Donncha mentioned a while back a selection of events from the Cork Midsummer Festival that looked good and so I set the date of the last event, Robodock, firmly in my mind. Of course I only booked it last week, meaning that the flights from Dublin had gone up from 1¢ to more than the cost of the Train, but I like trains to so it’ll be good.

Hopefully I will have Wi-Fi as the guesthouse I’m staying in assures me they have it and that it is free. I’m sure there will be plenty of Twitter updates either way and photos will be on auto at the photoblog.

I’m still in need of some ideas of places to see and things to do, cafés with wi-fi and places to eat.

Jonathan Hill: Danny Ventre

§ July 2nd, 2008

From the incredibly dull but shockingly wet 0-0 draw between Sligo Rovers and UCD recently. Danny does like to get stuck in but this time I'm afraid he missed the ball - and so did I.

inphotos.org: Kinsale at Night

§ July 2nd, 2008

The quiet, residential part of Kinsale as photographed from the busy touristy part across the harbour! This was a long exposure shot that came out quite nicely but it did show up the dead pixels on my sensor again. Good thing I don’t have time to shoot many of these types of photos nowadays.

The fight against comment spammers never ends. This blog is listed on a few “do follow” listings and I caught someone this morning leaving a comment after they came here from a “site:inphotos.org” Google search. The comment is delinked but even if I hadn’t, his url still wouldn’t have shown because I only show it after a certain number of comments have been made. It’s my thank you to the regular commenters here. The pagerank you get from that link isn’t diluted by the spammers.

PS. Phil O’Kane will be in Cork next weekend from Friday to Sunday. I’ll be meeting him at Robodock at 3pm and hopefully before but maybe we can get a small photomeet together at some stage on Saturday or Sunday?

Scenes of Ireland (and more): Wheat Grass

§ July 2nd, 2008

What we used to call Wheat Grass as kids - we spent ages "harvesting" the grains from the top of them in the back garden and then crushing them between two "mill stones" (big flat stones from the mother's rockery) to make flour.

Iced Coffee: lé eithne

§ July 2nd, 2008

This is the stern of the LÉ Eithne (P31) at the Maritime Festival in Belfast at the weekend. Unfortunately they weren’t letting anyone else on the ship when my brother and I arrived. The weather was good though.
